The Salvation Army is committed to sharing God’s love and message of Jesus Christ by actively meeting human needs in His name without discrimination. For our area youth, we offer several Salvation Army scouting and other character-building ministry programs that help our youngest residents grow in an understanding of God’s love through a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our Programs are:

The Moonbeams

Is a holistic Christian Education experience for girls and boys in pre-k and their self-image and their image of God. The purpose of the character-building programs is to give boys and girls an opportunity for personal growth spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially, thereby increasing their understanding of life and service.

Sunbeams and Girl Guards

Sunbeams and Girl Guards are for young girls, which allows them to mature as Christian young women while having fun and learning.

The Sunbeam program is for girls in grades 1-5. The Girl Guards is for girls in grades 6-12. The purpose of both of these guarding programs is to give girls an opportunity for personal growth spiritually, mentally, physically, and socially, thereby increasing their understanding of life and service. It emphasizes discipleship, evangelism, and the development of life skills. It also offers opportunities for building relationships with other youths in the community.

The Adventure Corps

Is a character-building program designed for boys in grades 1-8. Adventure Corps is a faith-based community program focusing on the physical, mental, and spiritual growth needed in males today. Adventure Corps is an important aspect of Corps ministry that could provide a Corps with a strong young male church base.

SPA brings to life the arts to children in our community by offering them the opportunity to experience the joy of learning various performing arts skills, including piano, dance, drama, brass band, visual art, and education enrichment. Our schedule coincides with the East Baton Rouge Parish school year schedule.

Hours of program: Monday, 4 pm – 7 pm

Summer Camp

Many children leave school each spring and head out for a fun-filled summer of camps. However, for many kids from income-limited homes, the possibility of going to summer camp is not an option.

We believe every child should experience summer camp—exploring nature, learning new skills, developing confidence, and building life-long friendships in a fun and nurturing environment. That’s why we offer kids from across Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi to experience one or more summer camp programs at Camp Hidden Lake, our 300-acre camp in Lexington, Mississippi.

Camp Hidden Lake is residential for a week (6 days), and transportation is provided. During the week, campers experience long, hot summer days, dips in the pool, star-filled nights, campfires, roasted marshmallows, pillow fights, cabin devotions, emblem work, seeing old friends, and making new ones.

Registration for summer camp 2024 will begin in May. For more information,  call 225-355-4483 x.401 or email aniyah.downey@uss.salvationarmy.org
